Everyone would like to have better more restful sleep. What many people do not understand is that they are doing things each day that are hurting their sleep. This is why it is vital that people understand the things that they are doing that are making them more tired and less rested. Here are a couple of those things:
1. Using Screens Before Bed
It has become a habit of many people to watch a show before going to bed. If they don't watch TV, you can bet that they are probably playing on their cell phones. Even something as simple as checking social media can hinder your sleep. This is because the light on your computer screen mimics the sun. The goal is to get your body to recognize that it is nighttime.
If you are looking directly at something that is bright and mimicking the sun, your body thinks that it is daytime. The circadian rhythms, your body's internal clock that tells you when it is day time and night time, are very sensitive to light. If you disrupt them it can prevent you from falling asleep.
This is why it is best if you stop watching TV, put down the phone and get off the computer before you go to bed. Listen to some music, read a book, or just meditate. This will help you sleep better.
2. Not Exercising
Many people work in an office each day. Sitting at a desk doesn't get your heart pumping like it should. Your body needs to get moving so that it can burn calories and exert energy. The more you exercise the better you will sleep.
Don't fall into the trap of thinking that if you exercise you will feel jittery at bedtime. It is actually the opposite. You will feel more energized during the day, and then when the night does come your body will begin to feel tired and welcome sleep.
3. Poor Diet
Eating sugar, drinking alcohol and not getting enough vitamins and minerals can hinder your sleep. Your body needs to be fueled during the day and throughout the night. If you have a lot of caffeine, sugar or alcohol in your system you body might feel unsettled even while you are sleeping.
You could feel agitated and even though you slept it may not have been restful. This is why it is important that you eat well during the day.
By avoiding these things you can get more restful sleep. If you feel like you're still having problems, contact a company like Billings Clinic for more help with sleep disorders.
